High protein cheeseburger bowls

These cheeseburger bowls are my favorite high protein dinner trick: all the flavor of a loaded burger — seasoned beef, melty cheddar, pickles, and a creamy special sauce — in a 20-minute bowl with 42 grams of protein. If you loved my garlic butter steak bites, this is your next weeknight regular.

High protein cheeseburger bowl with seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cheddar and creamy burger sauce

All the burger, none of the fuss.

Here's what you'll need.

Simple burger-stand staples — the greek yogurt swap in the sauce is what keeps the protein high and the calories reasonable.

Ingredients for cheeseburger bowls portioned into small bowls: ground beef, romaine, cherry tomatoes, pickles, red onion, cheddar, greek yogurt, ketchup, mustard and relish

Here's how it all comes together.

Step 1 — Brown the beef

Cook the ground beef in a hot skillet, breaking it up as it browns. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and a splash of Worcestershire.

Step 2 — Whisk the special sauce

Stir together greek yogurt, ketchup, mustard, relish, and a splash of pickle juice. Taste — it should be tangy enough to make you blink.

Step 3 — Chop the toppings

While the beef cooks, chop the romaine, halve the tomatoes, slice the pickles, and dice the red onion.

Step 4 — Build the bowls

Lettuce first, then hot beef straight from the skillet so the cheddar you scatter next gets melty. Add tomatoes, pickles, and onion.

Step 5 — Sauce and serve

Drizzle the special sauce generously over everything and finish with a pinch of sesame seeds — the "bun" experience, no bun required.

Things I learned while testing this recipe.

Great for meal prep (and GLP-1 friendly, too).

Here's what I'd serve with this.

Just in case you have leftovers.

Storing: Keep the beef, sauce, and toppings in separate containers for up to 4 days — assembled bowls go soggy overnight. Reheating: Rewarm the beef in a skillet or microwave with a teaspoon of water, then build the bowl fresh. The sauce keeps a week and doubles as a dip for air fryer salmon bites.

FAQ

Are cheeseburger bowls low carb?
Yes — about 9g carbs per bowl as written. Skip the ketchup or use a sugar-free one to go lower.
What's in the special burger sauce?
Greek yogurt, ketchup, mustard, dill pickle relish, and a splash of pickle juice — a lighter, higher-protein take on classic burger sauce.
Can I meal prep cheeseburger bowls?
Absolutely. Store the cooked beef, sauce, and chopped toppings separately for up to 4 days and assemble just before eating.
Can I use ground turkey instead of beef?
Yes, 1:1 — add an extra teaspoon of Worcestershire for depth since turkey is milder.
